I would be the first to agree that Wild Bill was murdered in a cowardly manner. From what I have read concerning the history of the old west, the face to face "draw" was a myth and very rarely occured because most men were shot IN THE BACK!. It just goes to show a man can be as mean as a rattlesnake but be as cowardly as they come. I also can't help but wonder how many deadly altercations all through history to the present were fueled by "liquid courage".

The family is aware of the Obama connection. It is through the Blossom Family on his mother's side. And he IS NOT A DESCENDANT...he is a COUSIN. There are only two types of descendants: lineal and collateral...a lineal descendant is one from parent's to children....a collateral descendant is through brother's and sister's, as in nephews and nieces....Cousin's are those that share blood relatives....they are NOT descendants.....Obama, as well as many others need to look up the proper definitions of the English language so that they use them properly.

5th Cousin; 4 times removed of James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok

I'd like to clear up some 'stuff'':

1. No one is a direct descendant of James Butler Hickok. He never had any children. He had a step-daughter named Emma Lake-Hickok from his only marriage to Agnes Thatcher-Lake. Most people who are related, unless you are a descendant from J. B. Hickok's Brothers or Sisters, will be Cousins of some sort. Relatives of J. B. Hickok can trace their ancestry from William Hickocks of Farmington, CT who arrived on the "Plaine Joane" in 1635...or relatives of Polly Butler's family (J. B. Hickok's Mother). Charles Harmon #13.1 above ( Hi Charles!!) is a Nephew being descendant from one of J. B. Hickok's Brothers. There are probably many thousands of "Cousins" attached to the Hickok and Butler Families...and possibly hundreds of Nephews and Nieces.

2. Wild Bill was never in the Wild West Show of Buffalo Bill. He was murdered several years before Cody even formed the show. He was however in a traveling 'play' with Cody, etal. called 'Scouts of the Plains' for a few months.

There was a prominent banker who worked for the First National Bank of Oregon in Astoria, Oregon in the 1940s who was a relative of Wild Bill. His name was Guy Hickok. Supposedly, his family had been loath to acknowledge the connection for some years because Guy's father had been a very active hard-rock Baptist minister, who did not approve of the various habits of Wild Bill such as carplaying, drinking, and carrying on with loose women. However, as Hollywood cleaned the Hickok image up, the family rediscovered their connection.
