Evolving beyond the articles of confederation.
A confederation has never worked for any length of time in the history of the world. The uncivil war was the biggest mistake.
Same as british ones.
withdraw the military support from china(1949) and vietnam(1972)
Thinking they are indestructible, hence loosing in Vietnam, and also leads to most the world hating them.
And in response to "chinese", finally withdrawing from Vietnam is probably the damn smartest thing they ever did, I'm studying the war at A level in England, and it is clear the Americans went in there to simply make a point to China and the USSR that they would not roll over for communism. Costing hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese and American lives.
