A friend of my dads was airborn. He told my uncle (dad was killed in the war) that some of the worst glider drops were in Germany. The plane pilots would drop them to soon because they were getting shot at by the Germans. It was so bad that our glider troops shot at our planes in frustration.

I think it would be D-day's drop of the hundred and first airborne platoon because lots of the airborne planes were shot down.

The drops and glider operations in Sicily, but not because of enemy opposition. The drop on Crete was a complete success, but the troops were cut from surface resupply. The D-Day drops weren't right on the planned drop zones, but they caused so much confusion among the Germans that they were successful, At Sicilty US and British troops and sailors killed hundreds of their own men.
