Dear Mr. History,

I live in Normandy and know much of the history of the 2nd World War here, but not about what fighting and occupation took place in Normandy during the 1st World War. Please give me an idea of what happened in Normandy?

Thank you/ merci.

Chère Mlle. Trask,

There is a reason why there are no monuments to World War I battles fought there: no battles were, because the war never got out there. The German drive toward Paris never got past the Marne River, where it was stopped in September 1914, and where their last bid for victory in the west was stopped again in July 1918.

Sincerely,
