Those Jewish soldiers who fell in W W1 were buried alongside their Christian compatriots in hundreds of cemeteries in northern France and Flanders. During W W 2 the Germans of course occupied most of these sites. The graves were not cared for, in 1945 the grass was 5 feet tall. However the Jewish graves were not desecrated. In a rare moment of magnanimity Hitler indicated that these men had fought for their country and their resting places should not be defiled.
