Hmm. I am not too sure that the Russian histories Putin refers to are accurate at all. In fact, I was quite surprised to see him in this issue.

Prime Minister Putin goes down a dangerous path when he calls for journalists and scholars to "tell the truth about World War II, its sources and lessons." New information is constantly coming to light about the war, and even when every "fact" is known (a time that is not likely to ever come), the facts are still open to varying interpretation by scholars. Some of those interpretations will not match the propagandized versions held dear by the Russian people. It should not be up to Kremlin officials to decide what historical works present the "truth." That would be a clear signal that Russia is regressing into Soviet modes of thought.
