Brig. Gen. William R. Terrill commanded a brigade of troops at Perryville, Ky. on October 8, 1862, that included the 123rd Illinois Regiment. The article leads one to believe he was a regimental commander.

In addition to his brother James siding with the Confederacy, Philip M. Terrill and Dr. George P. Terrill served the South. Philip was killed in the fall of 1864 near Winchester. George survived the war.

A brother-in-law, George A. Porterfield also served the Confederacy.
