I was Head Medic with A Company at Nhi Ha, Alpha did draw the short straw, Leach would not have done any better than Captain O did if he would have been out there with us. There were many a brave men in Alpha Company in a bad situation that day, with minimum to no support from the marines, and very little from C company. We were lucky to not lose more men than we did.

Does anyone know if there are records comparable to the Americal Division DTOC radio report records for this action. I am recording history for 3/21/196th battalion and more specifically, for the E Co. Recon platoon. The Americal DTOC records are blank for 3/21/196th because the army battalion was put under the command of the marine unit.

Members of our unit are trying to put together a complete history, and unfortunately, this account appears to have no information on the 3/21/196th Recon platoon. I am in contact with one of our members who was present at the battle of Nhi Ha, and am trying to find sources to pull out more information.

The aircraft shot down at Nhi Ha was a F8 Crusader not an A-7 Corsair. Not that it matters much, especially in light of Captain Clark's sacrifice. Marine Captain Stephen Clark was flying in support of us when his aircraft was hit by ground fire. I was watching his run when his left wing was hit and failed. He was low and headed into the ground. Captain Clark did not survive. I have been in touch with one of his aircraft's ground crew members. Rest in peace Marine and also the Soldiers and Marines on the ground who gave all in this action.

I was a medic there and the posting by Mike Nolan jogged my occasionally fuzzy memory; Mike, I think I remember you. I often wonder what happend to a grunt named Mike Adams, everyone called him "Gib", short for Gibbon (a little monkey). He was from Allen Park, MI.

I was there as Captain Leach's RTO. It was intense for sure. Our own little taste of what World War II must have been like.
