Thank you for your in depth analysis of Burnside's attack on the morning of September 17, 1862. McClellan has been called a liar because he "changed the time" he ordered the attack in his initial battle report of Sept. 23, 1862 and his Report for the Official Record written a year later. Your article establishes that he was only trying to support his friend, Ambrose Burnside's account in the initial draft. Later,McClellan came to realize that Burnside had fabricated the time he received the order to attack the Rohrback Bridge. Thank you for your outstanding historical research and insightful writing.
