Dear Mr. Del Castillo:
Picacho Pass, the westernmost battle of the Civil War, was fought on April 15, 1862, by 12 troopers and a scout of the California Column and a small party of Confederate pickets from Tucson. An inept single-file advance by the Union commander, Lieutenant James Barrett, resulted in he and two of his men being killed and three others wounded, while capturing three Rebels who surrendered. There were no Pima or Apache involved in the fight.
