Just rewatched the show and was curious about its historical accuracy. This excellent summary answered my question in much more detail than I expected to find. Thanks for writing such a great article on this.

After watching the HBO series Ive found myself to be very intrigued with Deadwoods history. I've found out that In addition to Wild Bill, Calamity Jane, Bullock other a few wild wild west celebrities have entered Deadwood - Wyatt Earp (as shown at the end of season 3) and Jesse James. I look forward to finding out more about the history..

deadwood is a reference point on the globe of moving pictures,a guide for all interested parties on how the past is portrayed.it probably does not matter if a fourth series is ever made because for that brief period those of us who watched it intensely sat in that time machine and really knew what it was truly like to live on the edge of mankind.

I worked as an extra on season 3 - was great fun, even if there were very hot days and very cold nights. Cast was great, HBO spared no expense. Shame they could bot pull the forth season together.

i agree, so many questions were left unanswered at the end of Season 3. i loved the first episode of Season 3, when Bullock goes over to the hotel desk, and drags E.B. over the counter, and beats his ass

@Lindsey

I completely agree. An absolutely outstanding series.

I've watched in through 3 times (any excuse to show others). Everytime I watch it, it's equally as engaging and still so immersive.

No series has ever made me feel so many different emotions and now I am alot more interested in the Wild West and have purchased and read many books on the 'Deadwood' era!

This show was the best series I've ever watched. I've never become more interested in history in my life. The portrayals of the real life characters amazed me. I am so sad to find that there will never be another deadwood episode, its a really big dissapointment. I dont see why they would cancel a 7 emmy nominated show. I just finished the 3rd season, the find out that the 4th season was cancelled...so i was left on a cliff hanger the last episode. I wish there was someway to convice them to bring it back. The acting and everything else about the show was so amazing. Best tv show I've ever watched. And like i said, it made me become more interested in history than i ever thought i could be!

WHat happen to the two additional movies we were promised. I say start a campaign to bring back the best tv show of the western genre. So much was left up in the air with the ending of season 3.

HBO's Deadwood was absolutely the best program to ever be broadcast. It is beyond my comprehension that the series did not continue for many seasons. The casting was amazing and the element of historical accuracy made it even more compelling to watch. Although they unfairly made a villian of Geroge Hearst and showed competent E.B. Farnum unlike the successful business man he actually was, the show was balanced with other more accurate portrayals.
HBO needs to be sanctioned for canceling the series.
