Need a picture of The Bandit built store in La Honda California that The Younger Brothers and Associates were said to helped build, La Honda was a town that the Youngers and the James would hide out in after a robbery in Missouri.

Was Jim Reed really William Reed or someway related? My mother was a Reed. Did he marry an Indian Lady by the name of Lillie (Lilly) Ellington? My Grandmother was an Indian lady and married William Reed in or near Hartshorn, Oklahoma. My Mother was Born there and she remembered the James Gang. She said her Dad would hide them out on his farm.

To Colby (#19)
No. I have done considerable research on "Webb/Keane." His real name was Thomas John McKeehan. He was closely related to Sol and Jim Reed.

Keep in mind that movies are not history. I enjoyed Brad Pitt's portrayal of Jesse, but I laughed at the idea of him knowingly allowing Bob Ford to shoot him. (Absolute nonsense).

Because he intentionally lived a secretive life, the best one can do to understand is to read T. J. Stiles' work. Marley Brant, though not a trained historian, practices scholarly methods, and her work seems reliable and well-written to me. Ted Yeatman's (deceased) research has also shed light on the lives of Jesse and Frank. Start with those 3 works and notice the primary sources that they relied upon. Jesse's son's memories of his father are also enlightening.

Anyone can practice the methods of a professional historian-discipline yourself to rely upon evidence and read critically. Much written and "handed down" regarding the James-Youngers and their associates is not accurate. Always keep an open mind, pending new and convincing evidence. There are still things we do not know with certainty today........

The Jesse James Gang was in the Indian Territory in what is now Bryan Co., OK. A story in the local newspaper there reports that they rode in one time and invited themselves to stay at a local preacher's house for dinner. The preacher was holding gold boulion for the local Choctaw Chief as he had heard that they were coming in to rob him. Unknown to Jesse, the boulion was buried in the chicken yard. One of the gang members asked the preacher if he had an money and he replied that he was but a poorly preacher and had no money. With that his young son said but "what about the money the money they were given". The gang member grabbed up the boy by his shirt to intimidate him into telling more when Jesse interceded and said, "We don't take pennies from preachers". With that Jesse made the gang member leave the dinner table and go outside apologizing to the preacher. Jesse also had a circle of friends there in the Choctaw Nation. There's also rumors that local folks took care of a gang member who had been shot nursing him back to health.
