My ancestors were part of the Dawson Men. My 5X Gr Grandfather was Zadock Woods and he was with his sons and grandson. I am descended from Milvern Harrell who was with his Uncle Norman Woods. Milvern did escape at one point but was returned to his captors. He was not a part of the Black Bean drawing but was a witness. He was the last living member of the Dawson Massacre/Mier Prisoners. I can try to help with resources and I can email a photo of The survivors of The Mier Expedition. It isn't great but its still pretty amazing. They do re-enactments at Monument Hill every year in September in La Grange,Tx. I also don't mind helping with photos if they are local. There is a lance taken from a Mexican soldier that is in The Soldiers Barracks at The Alamo. It was taken by a Woods Family member who escaped The Battle of Salado Creek/The Dawson Massacre. I have heard that either Frederic Remington or someone of his caliber painted a version of the Black Bean drawing. It is or was owned by The Houston Museum of Art but is to gory to display. Try the Texas Handbook on line. Very informative. email me at Lonestar_girl_99@yahoo.com.

Do you have a list of those men who participated in the Black Bean Affair? Would it be appropriate to identify them and note where they are buried or what became of them?
I attended the memorial dedication of Ranger Samual McFall, a survivor of the affair. On 19 April of 2008, the Ranger marker was place by his headstone. He is buried in the Scott's Chapel Cememtery, Hillsboro, TX.
I am not from Texas, but the Meir Expedition and the events of the affair was very moving. This past week I visited the Alamo and saw some of the documents relating to the affair.
