I am about to finish ZHUKOV'S memoirs and finished LLOYD CLark book, so i have much clear vision about KURSK now.
KURSK was a TACTICAL victory for the germans if not they would had lost the war that year, the huge concentration of soviet forces made possible to hold the germans and so achieve their strategic goal that was to BLEED
German forces then counterattack what was done shortly
The germans didn't achieve total victory because they lacked INFANTRY and AVIATION FUEL, although they had air superiority in the first days, that would change in the final days of the offensive.
operation CITADEL was a Hitler's blunder, after STALINGRAD the soviets had gained the initiative, even STALIN agreed to hold the soviet offensive and listened to ZHUKOV'S advice to let the germans think they had the initiative and attack KURSK, and they did and fell into the soviet TRAP.

People here have a look on the warfare as is it were olympic games. What counts is victory, at any cost at a particular time. The Germans destroyed a lot of soviet tanks, but were stopped in Prochorovka and subsequently pushed behind the Dniepre lossing their victorius tanks for ever. Most of the knoked out russian tanks an Prochorovka were quickly repaired. Time is blood, you sacrifice a tank army but achieve the objectives of the whole operation.

After all writings about KURSK /PROKHOROVKA i am more inclined to conclude that PROKHOROVKA the soviets suffered a catastrophic loss
of man and material.
i am concentrating on ROTMISTROV 5Th guards now, to see how many tanks he lost from middle july to end of august 1943, it seems to be in excess of 1000 tanks, also i am curious to know about ZHUKOV"s memoirs if they exist.
the facts are that ROTMISTROV never gained command again after PROKHOROVKA, if he was such victorious, the question is why?.
KURSK remains a mystery , but i can see through the soviet perspective the soviet t34 tank commander driving at high speed with no radio if tank commander is destroyed, no visibility(due to dust in the air) at all towards the germans TIGERS/PANZER IV/BRUMMBARS/HUMMELS/etc.. waiting for them .
I believe the chaotic scenario it was like killing fish in a barrel for the germans.

I am very eager to read the book of LLOYD CLARK.
The battle of KURSK and the battle of PROKHOROVKA has been so much involved in controversy , and from the soviet side absolute LIES and DISTORTIONS pure propaganda that makes no sense at all, for them MICHAEL WITTMANN never was there or the 181st tank regiment was intact after the engagement at PROKHOROVKA.
I have the book THE BATTLE OF KURSK from GLANTZ would not buy it if i knew it was one version of history , the soviet version, so i will burn that book this winter in my fireplace and replace it with LLOYD CLARK ' THE BATTLE OF THE TANKS KURSK 1943.
