We were at Newport the GI stevedore port on the Saigon River that night. We listened to some of the radio transmissions from the embassy which sounded like them boys were in big trouble. Towards daylight there were few transmissions happening as the personnel already there had secured the building and only one or two VC were still operating. It was only months earlier in Dec/Jan that we were not allowed to carry our weapons to the port?? as enlisted men we were not allowed weapons in the Saigon area only officers could have them. ahhhhh that did change when TET started.
