		<description>I flew 3 tours as a fighter pilot in Vietnam, so perhaps I don&#039;t have a grunt&#039;s perspective.  But Charlie Company&#039;s actions were inexcusable.  The essence of the military is DISCIPLINE - and their actions were totally undisciplined.  They all should have served either life or very long sentences and the higher commanders, who covered it up should have been cashiered and jailed also.

Yes, I am totally aware that atrocities happen in war - we routinely shot German POWs in WWII, for example.  But the fact that atrocities happen doesn&#039;t make them OK.  A good commander won&#039;t allow his troops to stay in combat to the extent that they lose their sense of discipline.</description>
