Can you please give me any information about the palace in Mannheim, Germany, that was converted into a prison during WWII by the EUCOM military group?

Dear Donna,

Thanks for the question, but I believe you have your edifices mixed up. Mannheim’s Barockschloss (Baroque Palace, though mainly serving as a museum in the late 19th and early 20th centuries) was partially destroyed by Allied bombing during World War II, although after some debate they decided to restore it to its full 18th-century glory. What you may have in mind is in Stuttgart, a city taken by the French on April 21, 1945, and subsequently turned over to the U.S. Army, which in March 1946 established constabulary headquarters in the Kürmarker Kaserne, called Patch Barracks by the Americans. In 1967 Patch Barracks became headquarters for EUCOM.
