Go read "Robert E Lee on Leadership." Always remember too..historical revisionists have rewritten history…so choose carefuly what you believe :) A person's faith…is what completes… and what compliments..their character. And yes..King Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven..as both GEN's Lee and Jackson asserted :)

Re: faith and military service, Jesus called the Roman Centurion to faith, but not to stop being a soldier. Much of Paul's language in the original Koine Greek were military terms and had such connotations. We are called to be 'good soldiers' for Christ. In Paul's letter to Timothy, we are told that governments do not bare the sword in vain- a considerable statement in the face of Roman occupation. Jesus said if anyone calls someone a 'fool', they are in danger of the fires of hell. How can anyone judge people so devout, committed to the country they believed in- smaller Federal gov't, low taxes, more states rights, and even eventual emmancipation. Let he without sin cast the first stone.

Stan, the taking of life is not a one way ticket to hell. Even people who have taken the lives of others can find forgiveness in Christ. The Bible teaches that Samson was a great man of God, despite his shortcomings and the fact that he killed many men. There are several such examples. King David is another. He killed a man because he wanted to be with the guy's wife! Yet he too found forgiveness in God's eyes.
