I was privilleged and honoured to have met Air commodore Maccarthy when i was a young waaf back in 82. He was at the CME in London and i was the driver there. He lent me a copy of his book to read and we had many conversations about it. I found him to be a warm and generous man with his time. I was only 19 at the time and he was like in the gods of the airforcebut never came across as one,he always called me by first name and spoke to me always with a warm smile. Such a wonderful man with an amazing history, one that shall not be forgotten by all those who were lucky enough to meet him. 28 years on and still i remember him with a smile, a true gentleman.
