Raoul Wallenberg, a citizen of Sweden who, working with the Swedish government and the US War Refugee Board, saved 100,000 Jews during World War II. The Soviets imprisoned Wallenberg in January 1945. His ultimate fate is unknown. In 1981, he became the second person named an honorary citizen of the US. He later received the same honor from Canada and Israel.
