Seven. In 1982 the Argentine military government launched an invasion of what Britain calls the Falklands and Argentina calls the Malvinas islands. The UK mounted a naval task force with ground forces, which recaptured the islands by June 14, 1982. Britain lost seven ships: HMS Sheffield, HMS Arden, HMS Antelope, HMS Coventry, MV Atlantic Conveyor, and the landing – amphibious assault ships RFA Sir Galahad and HMS Fearless
