One. Oldest son, Robert Todd Lincoln, lived to be 82, dying in 1926. Second son Eddie died in 1850. In 1862, 11-year-old Willie died during his father’s presidency. After Lincoln’s assassination in1865, fourth son, Thomas "Tad," became his mother’s mainstay but died at 18 in 1871. Robert had his own distinguished career in government, law, and as president of the Pullman Company.
