Lances were officially part of British war-fighting equipment until this year
1928. The British Lancer regiments had lost their lances for all but ceremonies after the Second Boer War (1899?1902), but a conservative movement in the British Army saw lances restored in 1908. In 1928 the weapons were again returned to strictly ceremonial status.
