Rumors persist that this 19th century U.S. president was actually born in Quebec, Canada.
Martin Van Buren
Franklin Pierce
John Quincy Adams
Chester Arthur
Chester Arthur. His birthplace national historic site is in Fairfield, Vermont, near the Canadian border, but the managers of the Missisqui Historical Society in Starbridge East, Quebec, maintain he was born in Canada. Arthur’s father was a minister-evangelist who preached on both sides of the border. Though his political foes raised the birthplace issue, Arthur never addressed it.
