Hans-Ulrich Rudel. Of 27 Knight’s Crosses with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds awarded during WW II, only Rudel got one with Golden Oak Leaves. Primarily piloting Stukas, he flew over 2,500 sorties and claimed some 2,000 targets destroyed, including 519 tanks, 150 artillery pieces, a destroyer, two cruisers, and one Soviet battleship. He won ace status by shooting down nine enemy aircraft.
