Letitia Tyler. She died in 1842; her husband’s term ended in 1845. She had suffered a stroke some years before her husband was elevated to the presidency upon the death of President William Henry Harrison. Confined to a wheelchair she made only one public White House appearance, at the wedding of her daughter, Elizabeth. Andrew Jackson’s wife Rachel died before Jackson’s inauguration.
