The Bishops’ Wars, 1639 – 1640, were waged between these two groups.

English and Scottish. The clashes resulted when England’s king Charles I attempted to impose Anglicanism on Scottish Presbyterians. The first "war" was a meeting between the two forces near Berwick. The second Bishops’ War resulted in the Scots invading England and routing Charles’ army near Newcastle.
