Operation GOODWOOD was British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery‚s plan to finally capture Caen by striking to the east of it with massed armor. The town had been a British D-Day objective, but stiff German resistance held the city until the end of GOODWOOD on July 20, two weeks later.
