Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker commanded the Army of the Potomac during the Battle of Chancellorsville. He assumed command on January 25, 1863 and undertook the reorganization of the demoralized Army of the Potomac. By April, he thought he was ready to face Lee?s Army of Northern Virginia.
