Mary Ludwig Hays is better known as Molly Pitcher. During the Battle of Monmouth on June 28, 1778, Mary Ludwig Hays earned the name Molly Pitcher after she brought water to thirsty American troops. According to legend she also took over the firing of her husband?s cannon after he was wounded. According to myth she was presented to General George Washington after the battle.
