The American president known as the "Little Magician? and the ?Red Fox of Kinderhook? was Martin Van Buren. The eighth president earned these monikers for his political adroitness and skill at keeping his thoughts close to the vest. Born in Kinderhook, New York, on December 5, 1782, Van Buren served as vice president under Andrew Jackson from 1833 to 1837. He went on to win the presidential election of 1836 and served one term. He died on July 24, 1862.
