I was interested to read your comments about Kate and Ella Barnett swishing their skirts and walking out of Christ Church, Vicksburg, in 1864. I have an original newspaper article dated Meridian Clarion, 6th January and one from The Weekly Mississippian, Jackson, dated Jan. 13, 1864.

The article reads much like yours but the day was not Christmas Day - it was New Year's Day.

I don't know your source for Christmas Day but this article is definitely New Year's Day 1864. Just curious. If you want the article I will scan and send to you. Thanks and best wishes, RBDrake, historian and Civil War writer.
