I realize this is an old post but would love to learn more about my great great grandfather and the rest of the family. If you ever read this I would implore you to contact me, please. facebook.com/chillinlikavillan You appear to be very knowledgeable in the heritage and I am no longer in touch with my native family since the passing of my grandmother of the Mashunkashey's.

I thank you for leaving your comment. Ned Christie was my great-great grandfather (Documented). My great grandfather, Daniel Scott was Ned Christies' son-in-law. He passed many 'true stories' down about Ned and The Trail of Tears. Dime store novels had Ned crossing the whole country robbing and killing people-which was impossible, since he stayed in the Wauhillau/Rabbit Trap area all that time. It is also a shame how many Indian Nations were 'railroaded' in the past and in 'the not so long agos' that many Native Americans still have to put up with.

I am a direct decendant of Wm. M. Tilghman, and am also Pawnee, and Sauk. Tilghman was my Great Uncle and was a US Marshall for the Western District of Arkansas. He with Heck Thomas and Chris Madsen were known as the 3 Guardsmen of Oklahoma. His stories to family about the Christie affair were that it was another case of railroading Indians in general and the Cherokee in specific. No one worked up any evidence, just circumstantial, and it was a disgusting episode for the Court and for those who tried to do the right thing.
