I just watched Viet Nam Stories on KSPS here in Idaho - I sat here in tears watching, rewinding, and watching again.. whew.. it seems like just yesterday instead of 45 years ago (on 8/30/67) that I was 17 years old and got word that my boyfriend - Charles Dannie Turnbough, USMC had been killed in South VN.. I write to him and his 2 best friends who were also killed on the Walls website - I've visited the Wall twice -
Your story - as well as all the others.. touched me so very deeply - I felt compelled to find you just so I could write and say hello and how happy I am that you're here to tell your story.. because no one should ever forget.. I never will..
Thank you,
Sandy Milliken, Post Falls, Idaho

From Dec.1969 to Nov. 3 1970.
I was also a Navy Corpsman in Nam. I was in the bush for over 7 months with C-Co 1/5. Being a Marine corpsman is the most misunderstood job in the Navy, We did Socal Work, Marriage councilors, shrinks, and the most important fixing people in the field, and calling in the Helo's for the wounded. This article brings back many thoughts of the war. We are honored by the Marines of all ages. My job was to help the Marines of C-Co. For me, I honor You Marines for protecting ME. Thanks for letting me be a smal part of your your Marine Core.

"Doc" Thundercloud,
I first became aware of you in the recently televised depicting of the atrocities of the Viet Nam conflict. I believe, as I read your account here, that I'd have been like your two fallen comredes, in that I wanted, like you, to be the best US Navy Corpsman....period.
I joined the Navy and wished for Nursing school in 1981, but the program which I was advised was available, had actually ended in 1979. Such was my enlistment.
I remained a land-locked sailor, but was stationed, primarily, at Camp LeJeune, NC for most of my enlistment. Stories such as yours, as tragic as the events were that you witnessed and lived through, still allow me to have great pride in the work I was asked to do. Many people don't understand the mind and heart of those called upon to heal. Thank you, sincerely, for sharing your experiences with us, and may your God or deity always keep you in good health and spirits.
