William Averill Comstock was my great-great grandfather on my grandmother's (Olivia Comstock Thompson) side. I would love a copy of your book and any other information you have on Medicine Bill and the family.

My mother was a Comstock from Omaha and the surrounding communities. I too would like any information about your book upon completion. My Aunt Connie Comstock Thomsen in El Paso has a very detailed Comstock ancestery book that may be helpful. The last entries are of my grandfather William Comstock on our branch of the tree so the book is in need of updates.

I am a distant relative of Bill Comstock and would love to get a copy of your book when completed. I have long been interested in his story and find it amazing that there are so many variations. Someday I hope to travel to Fort Wallace and also to find his old homestead, which interestling enough ended up in Grovers hands after Bills death

Hi Linda. Medicine Bill was not in the Beecher Island fight but Sharp Grover was. George Bent said Comstock had visited the Dog Soldier village of Bull Bear, not Turkey Leg as most reports claim. Did the Indians kill him? Who knows? Personally, I believe Medicine Bill was killed by Indians. A spy for Custer? Interesting idea and one I have not heard. Most accounts say Bill and Grover were trying to talk the Indian leader (Turkey Leg or Bull Bear) into calming down his warriors. I'm working on a book about all this and hope to learn more about this fascinating character.

Simply a great article on perhaps one of the greatest scouts in the era of the american indian wars. Likely killed by indians because
of his expertise and knowledge of the red rascals!
