I remember the call coming in from Regiment asking for Jarvas, it was then they told him to ready his troops to relieve 2/4 in the morning, we listened to Bravo getting slaughtered over their radio and was monitoring 2/4, we listened to what was going to happen to us the next day, it was scary as hell

Hunt i was on radio watch with you the night before we were sent over to relieve 2/4 i had only been in country 3 days, my hooch was on the side of the pagoda. There is a few corrections, we relieved 2/4 by making two singlefile lines so they could get between us and go to the rear to be extracted, there was only 3 companies Alpha to our right, Charlie as lead company and Delta protecting HQ, we set up a 360 on the banks of the river then Jarvas in a brave manuver made a right turn in the morning and headed into two villages with grave mounds in between them, Charlie was on the left, Alpha on the right, Delta in the rear ahead of HQ, it was then when Alpha got close to the villages they opened up pinning everyone down with machine guns in the tree lines to our left and right, two 46's came in to help the lead Alpha fireteam, one of which got shot down, the other came in with his rear wheels on the ground and picked up guys then sat down behind the downed 46 and got all thos guys, when he lifted off he was hit in the fuel tanks, dont know if they made it to the rear or not, I was positioned in the grave mounds between the two villages when the AO told us we were about to be overran, anyway,,,yeah buddy i was there SemperFi

Ted, from another Ted that was there. I was the com man with the Amtracs that took you across into that shit storm. Your Company Commander, 1st Lt. Norris, I believe, was on my trac. Glad you made it. So many brave Marines did not.

I can relate to this article very well. I was sent from the 3/9 battalion CP out to India company to be trained as a I-4...... I called in resupply, medevacs, and other helicopter support in addition to directing aerial observers, fixed wing close air support and an AC-47 gunship one night in February in the southern most end of the Ashau Valley on Operation Dewey Canyon.... It was a tremendous responsibility for an 18 year old kid.... While in Comm School I saw a film with a captain directing close air support and was thinking that doing that would be a great job and was disappointed when I heard that forward air controllers had to be officers with flight experience and yet 3 months later as a PFC I was a FAC directing close air support on enemy troops and talking officers into entering LZs while we were still under fire to pick up badly wounded Marines.
