http://www.brightok.net/~gsimmons/mem53-59.htm

"The 773rd Troop Carrier Squadron, Ardmore, became the first squadron in the USAF to be solely equipped with C-130A aircraft. The last C-119G (8148) of the squadron was transferred to Birmingham, Alabama for a final check before being assigned to an AF Reserve Squadron for training purposes. The C-130A "Hercules" replaced the C-119s, December 9, 1956. January 18, 1957

The second C-130A "Hercules" arrived at 1:25PM from the Marietta, Georgia plant. The crew members from the 773rd Squadron included Captain Alonzo H. Huff, pilot; Captain Robert E. Hurley, co-pilot and Tech Sgt. John W. McDonough, engineer. January 18, 1957"

Am I getting old and senile?

I was in the 773rd Troop Carrier Squadron when we took 12 C-119''s to France for 6 months with the promise we (773rd) would get the first C-130's.
As I remember is was our squadron, the 773rd, that accepted the first C-130's.

A great article about a great aircraft. Have been a Flight Engineer on three models of the "Lockheed Legend", C130A, C130E and C130H. I guess because it was the first one, the C130A still is my favourite. Also operated another great Lockheed product, the L1011 Tristar as well as B707 and B747. Fly puddlejumpers these days for recreation.

Hi Harry,

The Four Horsemen Video is now on youtube. Just make a search for Lockheed and Four Horsemen. Anyone having trouble finding can contact me at email below. Also would like to hear from anyone that flew with us, maintained our aircraft or knew about the team at Ardmore AFB, OK or Sewart AFB, Tn.

I really enjoyed the information you had on the c-130 team called "The Four Horsemen." Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the VHS tape The Four Horseman Story. I'd really appreciate any help. I've been getting Aviation History for years. It's one of my cover to cover magazines

I was privileged to be able to fly as a ass't flight engineer, as well as being the aircraft mechanic, with the group periodically during my service 1956 - 1960. A few years ago I donated my Green Weasel patch to the Air Force Museum in Dayton. When I received the acceptance letter it felt good knowing I had a little bit more to contribute to the history of the team. I understand the patches are not on display anymore but knowing it is there is what matters.
