My family has a friend who is 90 this year who was one of the few survivors of the HMS Harvester in WW2 when it was sunk by a German submarine. He was rescued by the French ship the Aconit. He lives in Melbourne Australia. He joined the the Royal Navy at age 14 and served thoughout WW2 and beyond. I find it interesting hearing his stories of life in the Navy during the war. I was recently tracked down by a lady whose father was lost in the sinking of the Harvester. She never new her father and our friend remembered her father who was the radio operator of the Harvester. Probably not too many people still alive who were on the Harvester now. Most perished in the sinking.
