To clarify, I never said officers had a 6 month tour of duty. What I said was that officers had 6 months tours in a combat command position before being reassigned to staff or other duties for the remainder of their tour. This magnified the impact of the one year tour in a negative manner as when an officer was just getting good at his job or really knew what he was doing he was then likely to be transferred. This was all because Westmoreland anticipated a quick war and wanted all his young officers to have combat command experience.

Please contact me - Donald E. Koelper was my cousins' father. That event in Saigon was "the end of innocence" for that family. I'd like to know more of what you remember. I was almost 11 when it happened, and the memory of the aftermath is still strong. Already, what you've written has given a more human touch to the events of that night. Thank you and I hope to hear from you.

Thanks for the "More on American Hero" I and a friend had just left the Kihn do when it was bombed. Point of interest is that one date in the movie was the date the bombing took place in Saigon. Well deserved recognition for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Thnaks
