In response to Bill, You would say the same thing about George Washington if you were English. Your words "treason" and "slavery" are the watchwords of the modern Civil War Times. You Modern day purveyers of tolerance look down in self riteousness on
a people standing up for smaller federal government and more states rights. Our current situation should enlighten you to the Pandora's box opened by the unfettered government of Lincoln.
You obviously haven't read your Bible. Slavery is a common theme throughout. As for serving JESUS CHRIST how many young men were ready to be received by our Savior because of Polk's efforts? THAT is his TRUE legacy. Weather you like his politics or not his legacy of service to GOD is unquestionable. By the way slavery was protected by the U.S. Constitution and the Supreme Court! READ IT! Nullification Crisis! Morill Tarriff READ IT! 1850S Northern bank failures! READ IT! I would never take the comments of Joe Biden as 100% American Policy. DO NOT use Stephens words to paint an entire section of our country! A Government of the people, by the people and for the people ceases to be of, by and for the people when one third of the population REJECTS it! I am constantly praying for self riteous , closed minded bigots like yourself who love to paint southerners as "Traitors" When they were much closer to protecting the Constitution "AS WRITTEN"

I will give great credit to the biographer who penned the above biography as a thorough researcher. As a historian, I deeply appreciate such thoroughness.

As an Episcopalian, I am very disappointed that an Episcopal Bishop would take up the sword to defend a so-called government and constitution which kept some 4 million African-American people in slavery, an institution which Confederate Vice-President A.H. Stephens called the "Cornerstone" of the Southern
social and economic structure.....an institution which was singularly established and permanently protected by Article Four of both the Provisonal and Permanent Constitutions of the Confederate States of America.

I fail to see how Bishop-General Polk served the Gospel of Jesus Christ by defending a treasonous government which enshrined
slavery as its constitutional cornerstone. 600,000 young American men died because of this horrible treason....of which
Polk was one....was it worth it???

To Paul Polk - Sir, I am great fan of your ancestor. In fact, I am preparing to portray the Gen/Bishop at reenactments. I have been told that I bear a resemblance to his grace and am doing a great deal of research, the one thing I can not find is information concerning his mount(s). All I have found is that his last mount was a roan. I can not find information concerning what name the mount was called or other information - I know most CSA generals named their animals and had favorites. If you could supply any information I would appreciate it. God bless

Thank you for the brillant and dramatic presentation with all the personal details of my great-uncles last days and momments on earth where for him the final battle was both lost and won in a momment. I would love to go to the spot so sacred where his body fell and his spirit received its last great order on earth. As an Episcopalian and Minister I will repeat his prayers and relate his great story of the wonderful deeds done with his commrades in both arms and Spirit.
