I really enjoyed reading the article on Leonard Rosen. I'm pretty sure that my dad, Pvt. Robert H. Longcrier was in the same unit along with his high school buddies Mike Chester, Ran Adams, Claude & Curt Henley, (all of Selma, AL). He spoke of North Africa, Gen Gavin and St. Mere Eglise, and I have several items from Nijmegen, Holland that he brought back. He didn't talk much about the war but was very proud of his sevice and the 82d Airborne. I was almost 2 1/2 years old before he saw me for the first time. He was a successful business man in Montgomery, AL and raised me and my sister Kay with my mother Doris, his high school sweetheart. After seeing me through Viet Nam and losing my mother and my sister to Cancer, he took his own life at her gravesite on Mar 19, 1987 at age 65. They are all "Somewhere over the rainbow".

My father David B Rhyand was in the 82nd .He talked to me alot about the war.I know he landed near the church and he told me about the germans walking up to them and surrendering. How do I find out if he was in your outfit?(What he called it.) My father passed on in '04. He told me of an officer who was related to the actor in the wizard of oz.(I think the lion) Do you know who that was?Do you remember one of the germans having a watch with a picture of his wife in it?I have pictures of my dad in his ALL
AMERICAN uniform. He was from cleveland ohio.He made two
jumps into france ,but was wounded on his second jump.He was relived of duty, but was very upset that he was sent to the hospital
as it was a hand wound. He was awarded a purple heart, but never
collected it.He said he did'nt deserve it. I say he did.All did.

I'm looking for anyone who might have served with my father in the 82nd Airborne during World WarII.
His name was George William Young, he was from Bangor, Maine and jumped over France and served in Belgium, to the beat of my knowledge.
I would very much like to find out any information about his service. Any advice on where I could begin? He passed away in 1961 at age 39. I was 9 years old so never got the chance for 1st hand knowledge from him.
I will share this however. I remember when I was 6or7 years old I asked him what he did in the war. I cannot remember him ever being real strict or physical with me, however his response to this query was he sat me very abruptly straight up in my seat, looked me square in the eyes and told me to pray I never see one.
That is all that was ever mentioned on that subject.
Any help for me in this search would be much appreciated,
 Thanks, Larry Young

My beloved father, Irving Liss (nee Israel Liss), joined the 82nd airborne from the 101st and made 7 drops into enemy fire.
He parachuted into Sicily, North Africa, Germany, Battle of the Bulge and Berchesgarden. Do any of the surviving veterans remember him?
My father passed away on 2/8/09 at the age of 91. I hope to learn more about the war experience.

Thank you, Brenda Buchbinder, Connecticut

The picture of the soldiers walking through the ruins of Nijmegan may have been from the 505th as the caption indicated. But the man in front is my father S/Sgt Thomas A. Shrout, 508 PIR 2Bn.

I believe my father, Walter Kearns, was in the same outfit. I know he made the same jumps into Normandy, Market Garden & Belgium. For years, he's asked me to locate guys in his outfit but I've never been able to find any.
My father was a sergeant and carried a BAR. He's from New Jersey. Is Mr. Rosen still alive-would he know my Dad who is 90?
Thank you.

Veterans Day November 11th 2008, Remembering the 82nd
Airborne on D-Day.

BAND OF WARNER BROTHERS AT D-DAY INVASION OF
NORMANDY & STE.-MERE-EGLISE WITH THE 82nd AIRBORNE
ON 6/06/44.

AT WAR AND HOME; Robert, William and Harry Warner were
involved in the D-Dayinvasion of Normandy. James probably
arrived in the war zonesometime after the initial assault.

Paratrooper Army Pvt. Robert Warner, who was in his early 20s
at the time, landed in Normandy (Ste.- Mere- Eglise) with the
507th Parachute Infantry (82nd Airborne).

507th Parachute Infantry Regiment;
The first elements, the 1st Battalion, jumped at 0232 hours, and
by 0312 hours, the entire regiment was on the ground generally
east of the MERDERET River and was fairly dispersed.

From air and sea, Allied troops invaded Normandy's beaches on
June 6, 1944, with 5,300 ships, nearly 11,000 airplanes, about
50,000 military vehicles and 154,000 troops. The strategy was
to establish five beachheads as gateways into the German-
occupied territory. The assault eventually opened Western
Europe to Allied forces and turned the tide against Adolf Hitler.
