I know I am a 4th cousin to General Joe but I can't go back far enough to find out his father's name if anyone knows please let me know..my family went from Georgia, to Alabama then Mississippi and my family branch wound up in Western Tennessee..any info appreciated

I was under the impression that Wheeler was actually captured when Joe Johnston sent hem to meet up with Jeff Davis and escort him to safety. Wheeler didn't like Davis but he respected Johnston. Davis got caught just before Wheeler got there and actually got caught trying to plan a breakout.

I am doing research on the family tree of General Joseph B. Wheeler. My great great grandfather is Benjamin Wheeler of near Lexington, Tennessee. My mother's grandfather Peter Francis Wheeler showed her and other of his grandchildren a sword and medals of General Joseph B. Wheeler. Does anyone know the family tree connection? I did a search for "Fightin' Joe" several years back, as I was told that I, too, am a relative. At the time, the official Wheeler home page had published the family tree that General Wheeler had commissioned to be written up. I found it facinating and even saw the family crest in there. I have since lost that wonderful piece of information, and I am saddened that I no longer have it. I am very proud to be a member of such a noble and philanthropic family! He, too, was my great great grandfather. Glad to see some of us are still around and kicking.

Hello:
A few years ago I did a background study and found that Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler, Is my Great Grandfather. e mad a trip to Wheeler Alabama, and found the homesite and verified this information. I am 71 years old. I found a picture of Fighting Joe when He was younger, and had it framed and when our attorney came to write our will, he said "Wess, You looked pretty good in a beard!" to which I responded that the picture was not me, but was a pcture of Joseph Wheeler, Mjr. Gen. of the Calvary in the Civil War, who fought for the South.
