Giap never said to any journalist that NVA would surrender to American terms. It's just a big urban myth.

My father was a Sgt.Major in the USArmy. He had two tours. When he came home for many years he didnt like any of the viet culture. Before he passed away in 1989 he would say things like he respected the norths army and told of some stories of the fighting will in both the north and south vietnamise armies. As he got older and time went on he even said that the country itself was beautiful and the people were just like any other people, just trying to survive.

having taken an interest in the "american war" as a teenager in the late sixties i finally fulfilled my ambition to go there in march 2006.i intend to return in 2011/12.i travelled by overnight trains from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi and everywhere i went the humility and magnanimity of the people was amazing, especially towards westerners in general and americans in particular;so the attitude and comments of General Duc Thuy do not surprise me.i have the highest admiration for the likes of him and General Giap.i hope next time to make a visit to the site of the battle and victory over the french forces at Dien Bien Phu.
My thanks to Colonel Ba of the NVA,who changed into full dress uniform complete with decorations to have his photo taken with us.

No, the Soviet could not have transfers those tanks in with their planes, it would be too noisy.

The French was surprised that the Vietminh had canons on top of the mountains and shoot them down too. I know how they did it but it's still a national secret.

Don't know why Mr. Huy refuse to answer that Khesanh was Vietcong trick to draw American forces up there so they had left the South VN vulnerable to attack.

I know that communist are ofently afraid to say wrong thing or they may be in jail, but in London, I watched general Vo Nguyen Giap said on TV to BBC interviewer that Khesang was a trap and there was nothing to take there but empty land and no people.
