Chex, that question is answered in Dr. Gerald Prokopowicz's book, Did Lincoln Own Slaves? He addressed dozens of questions he commonly heard when he was director of the Abraham Lincoln Museum in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

it was thought of even before slaves became free. it was a whole plot to kill about 6 or 7 political members. everyone chickened out and was arrested after except booth. he killed him and jumped off the balcony and broke his leg . later he was shot and killed in a barn.
i read it in a book.
