I have been researching the Burma Run, since my father, a Captain in the Air Force (probably the tenth AF), flew in this. He told of flying supply planes from Calcutta to China, "over the Hump". Somehow,General Arnold's name seems familiar, and the nickname "Hap".

My father passed away in 1984, when I was in my early 30's, but try as I might, I could never get him to say much about his time there, I knew he loathed being in Calcutta, due to the smell and lack of hygiene, and had several close calls, almost flying into at least a couple mountains after emerging from a cloud! He and "the guys" also used to bring beer along with the supplies, to cool it in the upper atmosphere, for the American troops in China, who included his older brother.

I am writing a semi-documentary on this, in part inspired by Paul Rudd's role as an Air Force Captain, who volunteered for the Burma Run, as did my dad, in the film "The Cider House Rules". It reminded me of the sacrifices these brave pilots made and I wanted to do a tribute to my father, to at least give to my mom and family, even if it isn't published.

Any links or other historical information you can provide on those who flew the Burma Run would be greatly appreciated.
