Hi John D. Lukacs,

I am just wondering if your study came across a fighter plane during the WWII on Guadalcanal which was shot in Marau Sound (Hatare coastline), Eastern tip of Guadalcanal? Locals said it was shot during that time and still there.

A local tour operator, the Conflict Bay Lodge which operates in that area will put it as one of its attractions for its visitors to see.

But the question is, which fighter plane was shot there?

Happy to receive reply to this...Cheers!

I am Solomon Islander who loves reading histories of wars, especially the WWII on Guadalcanal.

It is a moving thing when the Solomon Islanders/Tourism Authority are unaware of the soils they step on on daily basis have significance in.

Guadalcanal especially should be come our heritage in marketing tourism to the world. This means branding Guadalcanal is an effective and efficient marketing strategy to survive in the international markets.

Guadalcanal campaign will turn 70 years old in mid August 2012. There will be a roadside show in Honiara to celebrate this event and heroism of those who lost their lives to save our beautiful people lived in our place we call home.

Having just finished Mr. Lukacs' book, I am pleased to read this account of his visit to Guadalcanal. Although I'll never get to that set of islands, I can empathize with his emotional reaction having been to Saipan, Tinian, Guam and Iwo Jima, Manila and Corregidor. He is an excellent writer, and I'll look forward to his book about the battle for Manila.
