There was a time when I believed that we just waltzed across Europe and killed all the Germans we wanted. I now know better. There was a book I read;a first person account of the march across the Continent in the most bloody form imaginable. I was struck by one of this soldiers' descriptions of having to go back to the "rear" for some reason or other,he says he had to "walk on the backs and heads of American soldiers bloody bodies packed so tightly across open fields that he had no choice".He also let on that the" body collecters" had not had time to"clean up" so this was very typical of our slaughter at the enemies'hands with thier MG-42's ETC..He also siad he saw with his "own eyes" the body of what he believed to be a Japanese officer, sword+all. The editor of the book took umbrudge(sp?)with the auther on this point! Anybody recognize this book? It has bothered me for years, both the description of the immediate aftermath of Battle(i do not know which one) and not remembering the Book itself! I found it (book) to be very believeable+therefore most heartbreaking of all. Thank you, james creeden
