Pilgrim Moreton, came from my birthplace of Harworth Nottinghamshire. This Moreton liked to have a drink and a laugh and so earned the displeasure of the powers that were so he decamped and started his own place in America. There were Moretons living in Harworth in the 1950's.

The author has made James 1 of England, VI of Scotland a catholic. Actually he was brought up in the Scottish Protestant church. I quote wikipedia
"After the Gunpowder Plot, James sanctioned harsh measures for controlling non-conforming English Catholics. In May 1606, Parliament passed the Popish Recusants Act which could require any citizen to take an Oath of Allegiance denying the Pope's authority over the king.[105] James was conciliatory towards Catholics who took the Oath of Allegiance,[106] and tolerated crypto-Catholicism even at court.[107] Towards the Puritan clergy, with whom he debated at the Hampton Court Conference of 1604,[108] James was at first strict in enforcing conformity, inducing a sense of persecution amongst many Puritans;[109] but ejections and suspensions from livings became fewer as the reign wore on"

[...] “At the rendezvous, disaster struck again. After most of the men had boarded, they saw a group of armed men coming to arrest them. The Dutch captain, fearing arrest, set sail, leaving the women and children behind to face arrest alone. The authorities took them into custody, but, realizing they had little to gain by holding harmless women and children, they eventually granted them permission to emigrate.” (http://www.historynet.com/englands-trent-valley-the-land-of-the-pilgrim-fathers.htm) [...]

Hi, I was interested in this article as I am from the UK and my family has a hotel in the area. I was wondering if your readers would be interested in trips to this area to learn more about the origins of the pilgrim fathers.
I await hearing from you with much interest and would like to thank you in anticipation of your assistance.
