WHEN VISITING

Edgehill is situated off the B4086, approximately 83 miles north-west of London. Direct trains from London’s Marylebone Station run every hour to Banbury, where passengers can transfer to a taxi to reach the battlefield.

Other places of interest in the area include the Edgehill Battle Museum, which commemorates the battle through displays of arms, armour and costumes, together with tableaux, maps and relics from the battlefield. Members of staff can also organise battlefield tours. The museum is open from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday from April to September. Admission is £1.00 for adults and 50p for senior citizens and children. Broughton Castle, approximately 11 miles south-east of Edgehill, is a moated 14th century manor transformed into an Elizabethan mansion, which has barely been touched externally. Internally it houses a delightful mixture of styles with medieval and Tudor features.

Upton House, a 17th century house in the care of the National Trust, is approximately three miles south of Edgehill. The house was extensively remodelled in 1927 and displays a wonderful collection of works of art, including more than 250 paintings and 18th century porcelain.
