That's a ridiculous argument - the idea that because others perpetrated the same crime does not lessen the vileness of the practice in USA. Slavery in this country is the ONLY time in the HISTORY of slavery that slaves were lawfully made NON-human - it is the lesson of history that when one class of the human race dehumanizes another abominable atrocities follow - and it degrades every human involved.

That is true. Slavery has been a practice even back to ancient Egyptian days. But that does not excuse the fact that it happened here in America. How did America even start to be founded on a democratic government where the white people wanted 'freedom' but then turned their backs as hypocrites towards the black, indian and spanish people. They saw themselves higher because of their skin color and discriminated the natural rights to human beings. The fact that they were such hypocrites is disgusting. The 'white mans curse' cannot be argued against just because there are others who still practice slavery. It's the fact that they knew it was wrong, corrupt and brutal and still did it anyway.

I agree with San. Only a White American would make such a comment. If we study the practice of slavery in various countries, we see that although it was a common practice during these times only the white man stripped the humanity from the African American slaves. In most other countries, slaves could either purchase their freedom or eventually be adopted by their captures as part of the family and even marry within that family. Also, other countries (in their practice of slavery) did so from capturing their enemies or like in African, people would volunteer their slavery (for a portion of their lives) to pay for debts. During these times, in these other countries, slaves were generally NOT enslaved for free labor--only in the Americas by the White Man. To put it into words that one might more clearly understand, its the difference between murder and serial killers. Yes, murder is wrong and it happens everywhere, but almost all serial killers are white men. I think this is quite telling.
